If you’ve never been to Namibia, you’re missing out.
It’s one of Africa’s best known secrets.
It resembles South Africa in many ways; almost like an extension of the Karoo.
But there are major differences.
For one, it’s a safer travel destination than South Africa.
It’s also cleaner.
Perhaps you’re thinking that it’s prideful of me to compare Namibia to South Africa, and that it’s the type of thing a jingoistic person would write.
Here’s the thing though: I’m South African.
And to be honest, I consider Namibia to be superior to my country.
Does it have troubles?
Of course it does.
But there’s something to be said for a country that makes it their mission to move forward, and make a concerted effort to not use skin colour or historic regimes as an excuse for their own corruptness.
Namibia seems to WANT to do things right; they want people of all colours and backgrounds to take hands and take steps towards building a better country.
Their rugby team might suck, but that’s about the only thing.
I’d much prefer a terrible rugby team with a country that works, over a country the government of which uses things like sport to try and hide their vicious racism and corruption behind.
But alas, to move to Namibia is not that easy.
And that’s a great thing.
South Africa’s open border policy brings with it a myriad troubles.
Namibia does not want to fight that battle.
They have better things to do, such as look after their own first.
If you’ve never been to Namibia, make a plan to go.
If you have half a brain and you use it (which, admittedly, is much to ask of modern man), visit Namibia.
